Kicking Off The Open With Acai Bowls!

Friday, February 24, 2017 we’re kicking off the CrossFit Open Friday Night Lights style with our friends at The Harvest Bar.

 

What are the CrossFit Games?

The games are essentially the Olympics of CrossFit.  It is a worldwide competition where the fittest in the world compete for cash prizes and the title of the Fittest in the World.  To make it to the CrossFit Games, it all begins with The Open!

What is the CrossFit Open?

The Open is the first round of competition and eliminations on the road to the Games!  As CrossFit HQ puts it, “The Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season and the largest community event of the year. Every year, hundreds of thousands of athletes come together to compete in the worldwide, online competition.

Anyone aged 14 or older can compete in the Open. All you have to do is sign up at Games.CrossFit.com and log your score each week. Workouts are released on Thursdays at 5 p.m. PT, and athletes have four days to complete the workout for the week and submit their score.

The cool thing about the Open is that even if you don’t aspire to compete in the Games,  it’s a neat way to see how you compare to CrossFitters around the globe because everyone logs their score online.  Make sure you sign up here to participate!

What is Friday Night Lights?

Every Friday night for the 5 weeks of the Open, we cancel the normally scheduled classes (starting with the 4p class) and run heats, competition style, of that week’s open workout.  It turns ordinary Friday night class into a fun in-house competition. Everyone can participate regardless of age or ability!

There are prizes, member show-downs, coach vs. coach thrown-downs, and this year we are kicking off the festivities with The Harvest Bar!

They’ll be in house with us serving up the perfect post-workout snack, acai bowls!

Acai berries are touted as a superfood with many health benefits, so don’t wait until February 24 to grab one. Here’s a perfect Open style workout to do before enjoying a post-workout acai bowl!
